AUGUST'S RECAP

Real Shit: Openness and Honesty

This is a bit late, but real talk/real shit - it's been a heavy 2 months. I had to cancel the Seattle book release party due to an allergic reaction landing me in the hospital. We lost some funding due to this administration's crimes and unethical control. I downsized a bit to help some financial troubles and the list goes on a bit. However, there are still good things happening!

In August, Halogen:
  • Acquired several new partners and collaborators
  • Sold 25 copies of Gravity is a Concentration of Understandings
  • Landed some inquires and partnerships in Boston
  • Connected with Futures Without Violence to discuss developing a partnership
  • Began launching a new program (read more below)
UPCOMING:

Halogen will be tabling at the Freedom Run Women’s Health & Wellness 5K for BRE Innovative Solutions. It is October 4, 2025, at Ebey Waterfront Park in Marysville. Learn more here!

New Program

Halogen's new program in the works, Revolution and Reclamation, looks at the effects of estrogen and testosterone therapy in Black trans individuals, HIV and STIs, sexual education, intimate partner violence, PTSD, suicidal ideation, and compounding chronic conditions that disproportionately affect Black communities. Importantly, the social, cultural, and systemic link between them through the lens of patient empowerment and harm reduction both in an upstream preventative model and downstream interventive model.

Halogen will work with care providers and health care leaders to create a patient empowerment guide that provides information primarily on the effects of hormone therapy on compounding chronic conditions in Black trans communities. Then, we will create a hybrid narrative documentary series focusing on accessing gender and identity euphoria. This is done by working with Black trans therapists, philosophers, infectious disease leaders, anthropologists, and more to talk about bodily and cultural autonomy in efforts to break down stigma around intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and comprehensive sexual education.

This program is in partnership with the UW Network of Underrepresented Residents and Fellows and the Snohomish County Health Department. We are currently looking for funding for this . If you have any leads, let us know!
